Junior Galas
Our Junior Galas give younger swimmers the chance to experience the excitement of racing in a fun, friendly and supportive Club environment.
With events designed for different ages and abilities, swimmers can take part from the early stages of our Learn to Swim pathway — building confidence, celebrating their progress and experiencing their first taste of competition.
It’s not about being the fastest. It’s about having a go.
Puffin Gala
Designed with our up-and-coming swimmers in mind, the Puffin Gala includes accessible events such as 5m races and float races, giving some of our youngest swimmers the opportunity to experience their first Club gala.
It’s fun, relaxed and all about encouraging swimmers to get involved.
Porpoise Gala
The Porpoise Gala has its roots in the Club’s days at La Vallette and remains an important part of our Junior Gala calendar today.
Many of the historic trophies associated with the gala are still presented, connecting today’s young swimmers with generations of GSC swimmers who came before them.
Among them is the Curr Cup, awarded to the youngest swimmer to complete 10m unaided.
Penguin Gala
Held in the main pool at Beau Sejour, the Penguin Gala gives our young swimmers the opportunity to race over 25m and longer distances.
It’s an exciting next step for developing swimmers as their confidence, skills and swimming distances grow.
WHY TAKE PART?
More than just racing
Junior Galas are a chance to put the skills learned in lessons into practice, but they’re also about much more than results.
Swimmers can experience racing in a familiar Club environment, build confidence, celebrate their progress and enjoy being part of GSC alongside their friends and teammates.
They also provide a first introduction to the competitive side of swimming, helping swimmers discover whether racing is something they enjoy. As they progress through Learn to Swim and reach Stage 7, this experience can help them decide which pathway is right for them — whether that’s continuing into our competitive squads or moving into Seals to keep swimming for fitness and enjoyment.
For many GSC swimmers, a Junior Gala is where their first racing memories are made.
