BWCI Open Castle Swim
Each summer, hundreds of swimmers take to Havelet Bay for the BWCI Open Castle Swim — a 500m open-water swim from Castle Cornet to the Horseshoe Pool at La Vallette.
Organised by Guernsey Swimming Club and proudly supported by BWCI, the event brings the island together for an unforgettable swim while raising money for local charities.

Castle Cornet to La Vallette
The swim starts from the slipway at Castle Cornet before taking swimmers approximately 500 metres across Havelet Bay, finishing at the historic Horseshoe Pool at La Vallette Bathing Pools.

At the heart of the Open Castle Swim is fundraising for local charities.
Each year, proceeds from the event are shared between selected Guernsey causes, allowing hundreds of swimmers to enjoy one of the island's most distinctive swimming events while making a difference in the community.

THE BILL GREEN MEMORIAL TROPHY
Celebrating a special achievement
Each year since 1996, the Bill Green Memorial Trophy is presented to the oldest swimmer to complete the Open Castle Swim.
Frequently asked questions
Who can take part?
Anyone aged 10 or over on the day of the swim. Under-16s require the appropriate parent/guardian consent.
How far is the swim?
Approximately 500m across Havelet Bay, from Castle Cornet slipway to the Horseshoe Pool at La Vallette.
Can I enter on the day?
Yes. Online registration is encouraged, but registration is also available at the event.
Can I swim with friends or family?
Yes. There are no formal team entries, but friends and family can swim together in the same group.
What do I receive?
Swimmers can keep their event swim cap and receive a medal at the finish.
What safety cover is provided?
Water and land safety cover is provided throughout the event.
Do I need to check in?
There is no need to check-in on the day unless you have not previously collected your swim cap in advance. You will be counted in at the start before swimming.
